Winning at Online Sports Betting
How do I win at sports betting online, well to be able to consistently make excellent profits from sports betting at online sportsbooks and bookmakers is the holy grail for most punters. Let’s face the facts, over 95% of bettors around the world are losers, who simply contribute to the winnings of the professional bettors.
That may sound harsh, but for many years I was your average, losing bettor, throwing good money after bad and generally having no plan or thought process behind my bets. I didn’t become a professional gambler by mistake, I had the fortune to have a moment of clarity after losing $1000 on a single bet and I knew at the time that it was a real long-shot.
Successful sports betting means that you are winning more money than you are investing, but it doesn’t take many changes to your mentality to become part of the 5% that regularly profit from betting on sporting events. The following 5 tips for winning your sports bets, shoudl hopefully put you on the right track
1 – Treat Your Sports Betting Bankroll With Respect
Would you walk down the street and casually throw $20 into a rubbish bin? Of course you wouldn’t, so why is it that when the weekend arives, so many casual sports bettors seemlingly throw money away as if it has no value and has no importance to them as to whether they win or lose. We’ve all been there, we’ve all done it, but you have to stop that immediately if you want to make consistent profits from betting.
Firstly make sure that your betting bankroll is separate from the money you need to function day-to-day, then divide that money by 50. If you’re starting with $100, then your stakes should be $2 per bet, this will ensure that your bankroll survives the times when you go on a run of say 10 games without a victory. If you only have $100 and are betting $20 per bet, then your sports betting bankroll will run out in no time at all.
2 – Do Your Research
Probably one of the biggest reasons that people lose sports bets is that they can’t be bothered to research the event they’re betting on. You know the situation, you place your bet on a team to win, only to be surprised to find out their star player is missing because you hadn’t bothered to review the team sheets. There are numerous sources available throughout the internet to research the statisitics on any sport, so make sure that you have done your research first.
3 – Use Level Stakes For All Bets
This can be one of the hardest betting mentality changes for people to make as they try to become a professional bettor. When the odds are short, people may bet $20, but when the odds are 5 times longer, people only bet $10 or $5. Why is this? It makes no sense! You should be betting on an outcome because your research indicates that this is the likely result, the odds should make no difference to your staking. If it’s good enough to be bet and your level stakes are $10, then use that on all bets no matter what the odds are. You won’t be kicking yourself when your long shot comes in saying “I wish I had bet more on that one”
4 – Never Bet When Tired or Emotional
I’ll keep this short and sweet, but if you’re drunk, do not bet. Just had a bust-up with your partner, do not bet. Had a terrible night’s sleep and are not quite with it, do not bet. Woke up in a bad mood, do not bet. Follow the simple maxim of not betting when tired or emotionally weak will save you a lot of money over the years. Ever got home after a night out and decided it’s a good time to play online poker (I have) only to wake up and see how much money you’ve lose. It sucks and you’re better than that, so only bet when you’re fresh, ready & fully researched on the event.
